Abstract Because ionic liquids are apt to be utilized circularly, their use can reduce the pollution to environment. As green solvents, the ionic liquids can be applied to separating process, chemical reactions, specially the catalytic reactions, and electrochemistry, etc. This paper introduces the classification, synthesis, physical and chemical properties and applications of the ionic liquids in brief.
