Abstract To elaborate the aromaticity of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), this article constructed a simple mathematic model to deduce their general formula as C4R+2-IH2R+4-I. Extrapolation of this formula can explain well why every PAH compound follows the (4n+2) Hückel rule while the n equals (R-I/2). This formula provides a new scientific understanding to aromaticity from the reinterpretation of mathematics.
