Abstract This article designed a comprehensive experiment of synthesis of ethyl cinnamate including preparation of cinnamic acid, preparation of gallium sulfate/attpulgite solid acid catalyst, synthesis of ethyl cinnamate and determination of esterification rate of ethyl cinnamate. As a result, the optimized reaction conditions of synthesis of ethyl cinnamate as follow: the mass of cinnamic acid was 7.5 g, the amount of ethanol was 18 mL, the mass of catalyst was 3.0 g, react at 120 ℃ in 3.0 h. The yield of ester was no less than 85%, and the yield of ester was 42.3% while the catalyst reused more than 7 times. The experiment has significant characteristics of comprehensive experiment.
