Abstract The orientation effect and the reactivity of mono-substituted benzenes are controlled by the electronic effect of the substituent groups. By means of tabulation, this paper summarized the relationship among the electronic effect of the substituent groups, the orientation effect and the reactivity, also analyzed the particularity of electronic effect of alky and the universality of the-Ⅰ effect of substituent groups. Meanwhile, this paper discussed the fact that the direction of the conjugation effect played a decisive role on the orientation effect and the reactivity except halogen substituent groups.
