Abstract This paper introduced the differences of the teaching practice including textbooks, teaching contents and grading of organic chemistry course between the Chinese and American partners in the "3+1" Chinese foreign cooperative education program of major in food science & technology. The rational adjustments based on the teaching conditions in China were described. Furthermore, the advantages and disadvantages of the two kinds of organic chemistry teaching ideas were discussed, which would provide a new way to improve the teaching quality of basic organic chemistry course for life related majors.
