Abstract Materials chemistry is a new interdisciplinary, its course content has not been confirmed. In this paper, based on the understanding of its discipline concept and curriculum knowledge point, four knowledge areas of materials preparation, materials structure, materials performance and materials characterization are taken as course content of materials chemistry, and materials preparation as key content. The selection and designing of detailed content of four aspects to form an independent and universal content system is focused on in this paper.
