Abstract A comprehensive experiment about extraction process, content determination and antioxidant activity of traditional Chinese medicine were designed. The parameters of extraction of flavonoids from bamboo leaves were investigated using bamboo leaves as resources. The optimal extraction parameters for total flavonoids from bamboo leaves were as follows:ethanol concentration 70%, the ratio of material to liquid was 1:25, extraction time 2.0 h, and extraction temperature 80℃. According to optimal conditions, 2.24 mg/g flavone yield was achieved, and their antioxidant activity was also studied. This experiment involved the following knowledge, for instance, the extraction theory of inorganic and organic chemistry, the application of analysis methods of analytical chemistry, and the operation of spectrophometer in instrumental analysis. This experiment increased the practical operating ability of students. Meanwhile, their ability to data analysis and results evaluation were also improved.
