Abstract This paper took the teaching of “exploring the composition of water” as an example, through the analysis of curriculum standards, teaching materials and learners, from the view of cognition, inquiry level, cognitive level to plan the goal of “chemistry around you” theme unit and confirm the class objectives of “inquiry into the composition of water”. By modeling, exploring and reasoning, students studied the strange substances (hydrogen), and preliminarily formed the ability to study the composition of substances quantitatively.
