Abstract Emergence is a major characteristic of system science, and also the basic characteristic of chemistry. The origin of the emergent properties of chemistry lies in the two basic characteristics of chemical entities: chemical entities are complex systems with hierarchy; there are complex interactions among particles at different levels of chemical entities. Integrating the emergent ideas in chemistry teaching can not only improve the scientific perspective of material structure and nature learning, but also cultivate students' critical thinking and promote the development of macro identification and micro analysis of core literacy.
