Abstract Luminol is an important chemiluminescent reagent. In the field of forensic science, luminol is used to detect the presence of bloodstains at crime scenes, which often appears in some films and TV programs involving crime scene investigation. Through the introduction of discovery process of chemiluminescence (CL), CL reaction mechanism of luminol and application of luminol in the detection of bloodstains, theory and application of CL can be brought to the area of chemical education and teaching; meanwhile, students’ horizon can be effectively expanded.
