Abstract This experiment introduces one of the subject focuses, catalytic asymmetric transformation, into experimental teaching. Through CBS reduction, chiral 1-phenylethanol is obtained in high yeild and ee value, using acetophenone as the raw material. The crude product is purified by preparative chromatograph, and the optical properties of the product are characterized by gas chromatography with chiral column and automatic polarimeter. Through this comprehensive experiment, students are supposed to understand the general principles of chiral alcohols synthesis, further study new technologies and new methods applied in recent academic research, in order to improve their ability of analyzing and solving problems and stimulate innovation.
