Application of Closed-Loop-Experiment-Teaching-Mode in Education of General Chemistry: Measurement of Chemical Reaction Rate Constant and Activation Energy

Abstract In view of the difficulty for students to learn and understand chemical reaction kinetics, reformation of teaching method has been practiced based on the experiment of “determination of chemical reaction rate constant and activation energy”. The closed-loop-teaching-mode,which contains in-class theory teaching-problem oriented objective-self-motivated learning-experimental cooperation-consolidation and mastery of the knowledge, has been proved that it can improve students’ mastery of knowledge, enhance their academic grades and cultivate their scientific research skills. Through problem orientation, students are guided to use online learning resources such as MOOC and Rain Classroom by self-motivation. Followed by experimental operation students could achieve better understanding of the theory. This paper has made a specific exploration of the closed-loop teaching mode from the three aspects of experimental content, teaching methods and evaluation system. It is found that students are more active in the learning process, their mastery of the theoretical knowledge of chemical reaction kinetics has been significantly improved, and the closed-loop teaching mode shows excellent teaching effect.
