Abstract In order to introduce the frontier achievements into the comprehensive experiment of undergraduates, a new comprehensive chemical experiment for green extraction of elemental gold from electronic waste using NBS-Py system was designed. By the guidance of redox and coordination theory, the gentle, high-efficiency, and low-toxicity of N-bromosuccinimide-Pyridine (NBS-Py) system is used to effectively extract gold environmentally in electronic waste. Since this gold-extraction method contains important knowledge principles, basic experimental skills and some characterization techniques, it is transformed into a comprehensive teaching experiment. During the processes of leaching, extraction, reduction, calcination and structural characterization, we always carry out the problem-oriented inquiring teaching mode. The application of innovative experiment in teaching process can improve students’ basic experimental skills and promote students to utilize basic theoretical explaining experimental principles. Through designing experiment scheme independently and implementing experiment processes cooperatively, every link in the whole experiment teaching process is helpful to improve students’ scientific research ability and innovation ability.
