Abstract This study based on Kapur’s productive failure teaching and the systems thinking hierarchy model. Teaching practice was conducted on the topic of “ionic reactions and equilibria in aqueous solutions” in high school chemistry. By comparing the performance of students in the experimental class and the control class before and after teaching, this study explored the impact of the productive failure teaching mode on students’ systems thinking in chemistry teaching.
