Abstract Solid alcohol is widely used in restaurant dining and tourist picnics due to its smoke-free,pollution-free,high combustion value, simple production, and convenient use.Flame reaction is an important experiment in chemistry textbooks, but it has the disadvantages of inconvenient display and unclear effect. This article studied the conditions for making solid alcohol from sodium stearate and calcium acetate, and compared the effects of the two curing agents on the appearance, burning time, burning odor, and residue after combustion of solid alcohol. The effect of adding different metal cations on the appearance of the prepared solid alcohol and the flame reaction during combustion were explored to improve the appreciation of solid alcohol. This popular science experiment is easy to operate, display and interactive, and can be used to improve the chemical scientific literacy of different groups.
