Abstract Focusing on “gas water heaters” as the theme,this extension course“Investigating the Evolution and Rational Use of Household Fuels”integrates interdisciplinary content from chemistry,physics,and engineering. It is designed around four core tasks: “exploring principles” “iterative design” “scenario applications” and “model building”. By leveraging the clear evolutionary logic of water heater development: from direct-vent to flue-vent,then forced-draft,and finally balanced-flue types,the course aims to broaden students’ understanding of household fuels and cultivate their interdisciplinary problem-solving abilities and engineering mindset.
