Application of SOLO Classification Theory in the Evaluation of Chemical Engineering Principles Course Design:Plate Rectification Tower Design for Benzene-Toluene System

Abstract The SOLO classification theory is applied to the evaluation of chemical engineering principles course design.An evaluation scale is constructed based on four dimensions:process scheme selection,core process calculation,equipment selection and hydrodynamic checking,and drawing design and specification compilation,in order to accurately assess students’ cognitive levels,logical thinking and engineering thinking.Research results show that students’ cognition exhibits a distribution characteristic of concentration in the middle and low levels at both ends,with main problems including incomplete design closure,insufficient industrial adaptability,and weak innovative transfer ability.Based on the evaluation results,improvement strategies are proposed from three aspects:teaching content restructuring,teaching resource construction,and learning activity design.This evaluation system effectively addresses the ambiguity in defining thinking levels in traditional evaluation and contributes to the improvement of students’ advanced engineering thinking.
