Abstract The establishment and basic concepts of modern acid-base theories are introduced briefly.The modern acid-base theories consists of Brïnsted-Lowry acid-base theory,Lewis acid-base theory,HSAB theory and super acid theory.The extensive applications of modern acid-base theories concerned with physical organic chemistry,organic synthesis,organic catalysis and other fields are illustrated.
