Abstract A comprehensive experiment, microwave hydrothermal synthesis and characterization of monodispersed barium titanate nanocrystals, is reported. The monodispersed cubic-like barium titanate nanocrystals(10~20 nm) were prepared using inexpensive reagents by microwave hydrothermal method. X-ray powder diffraction, infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, contact angle measurement, thermogravimetric analysis and transmission electron microscope were used to investigate the crystal structure, surface property and morphology of the barium titante nanocrystals. This comprehensive experiment is not only a hot topic in the field of nano-scale material preparation, but also meets the experiment-teaching requirement. Furthermore, its excellent expansibility is beneficial for cultivating students' innovative ability.
