Shape memory polymers can response to the external stimulation such as heat, chemicals, mechanism, light, magnetism, electricity and so on, to change their technical parameters. As a type of important functional materials,shape memory polymers have undergone a rapid development since 1980s, which are widely applied in the fields of aerospace, medicine, power electronies, packaging and intelligent control system. In the paper, the shape memory mechanism of shape memory polymers is analyzed. Some common shape memory polymers and their applications in all fields are described in details, respectively. At last, some disadvantages in the development of shape memory polymers are put forward and some suggestions are given.

A comprehensive experiment, microwave hydrothermal synthesis and characterization of monodispersed barium titanate nanocrystals, is reported. The monodispersed cubic-like barium titanate nanocrystals(10~20 nm) were prepared using inexpensive reagents by microwave hydrothermal method. X-ray powder diffraction, infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, contact angle measurement, thermogravimetric analysis and transmission electron microscope were used to investigate the crystal structure, surface property and morphology of the barium titante nanocrystals. This comprehensive experiment is not only a hot topic in the field of nano-scale material preparation, but also meets the experiment-teaching requirement. Furthermore, its excellent expansibility is beneficial for cultivating students' innovative ability.

A new type apparatus for determination of polymer swelling is introduced. The operation mode of the apparatus is similar to rotating an hourglass. The apparatus can be used to determine swelling curve of a crosslinked polymer in different atmosphere, and determine the maximum swelling degree and thus determine the crosslink density.
