Abstract This paper introduced a comprehensive experiment of synthesis and charaterization of ferrierite in two different hydrothermal systems. Based on the conventional hydrothermal crystallization methods, zeolites ferrierite (FER-type) were prepared by employing ethylenediamine and pyrrolidine as organic amine in two different hydrothermal systems, respectively. The resulting products were further characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), 27Al MAS NMR, 29Si MAS NMR analyses and nitrogen adsorption/desorption. From the view of experiment teaching, the entire experiment procedure was arranged reasonable, content-rich, easy to operate, fully reflected the "synthesis-characterization" thought of comprehensive scientific thinking mode, therefore, students would be familiar with the methods of the whole research process in inorganic chemistry and materials chemistry, and understand the basic process of scientific work.
