The most generalized disconnection used in retrosynthetic analysis of enones is the aldol condensation. But in some cases, enones can not be disconneted ideally by the aldol reaction. The alternative strategies such as aliphatic Friedel-Crafts acylation, Nazarov reaction, Baylis-Hillman reaction, intramolecular Stetter reaction and Diels-Alder reaction should be attempted according to the structures of target molecules.

Show Abstract ( 124 )

The "five-in-one" MBD (model-based discovery) teaching mode is developed for inquiry learning based on information processing theory and cognitive theory, which combined the basic theory of pedagogy and "four-in-one" model of informatics to further improve the proceduralness and scientificness of inquiry teaching. The comprehensive evaluation of "five-in-one" MBD teaching mode is an important indicator of the mode to develop subjective initiative of behavior subject in the actual teaching. However, due to a variety of factors, it is difficult to carry out quantitative assessment. Therefore, this article established a fuzzy evaluation model based on fuzzy mathematics and converted qualitative evaluation indexes to limited quantitative evaluation indexes to examine the timeliness and functionality of "five-in-one" MBD teaching mode in the actual teaching.

This paper introduced a comprehensive experiment of synthesis and charaterization of ferrierite in two different hydrothermal systems. Based on the conventional hydrothermal crystallization methods, zeolites ferrierite (FER-type) were prepared by employing ethylenediamine and pyrrolidine as organic amine in two different hydrothermal systems, respectively. The resulting products were further characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), 27Al MAS NMR, 29Si MAS NMR analyses and nitrogen adsorption/desorption. From the view of experiment teaching, the entire experiment procedure was arranged reasonable, content-rich, easy to operate, fully reflected the "synthesis-characterization" thought of comprehensive scientific thinking mode, therefore, students would be familiar with the methods of the whole research process in inorganic chemistry and materials chemistry, and understand the basic process of scientific work.

Does Water Seal Really Do Not Work for Preventing the Volatilization of Mercury

REN Ju-Jie
Chinese Journal of Chemical Education. 2015, 36 (18): 74-76. ;  doi: 10.13884/j.1003-3807hxjy.2014120069

Show Abstract ( 131 )

With thermodynamics, it is well explained that water seal on mercury surface is very effective for preventing the volatilization of mercury. Furthermore, if an immiscible multi-component system is steady placed, the volatilization of the phase with a greater density will be blocked by the top phase with a minimum density. A misconception exists in some physical chemistry textbooks, courseware, and many teachers' teaching process is stated. This is important for correct understanding of the phase equilibrium of immiscible dual liquid system, a type of common natural phenomena, effective use and control of such system.

The emergence and development of anesthetic have made an indelible contribution to relieving human pain. China was the earliest country using the narcotic drug. There was "poison" in Warring States Period, "MaFeiSan" made by Hua Tuo in later Eastern Han Dynasty, "Sleeping Saint San" in Song Dynasty, "Knockout Drops" in Ming Dynasty. In western countries, the earliest used modern anesthetic was "laughing gas", ether and other narcotic drugs appeared subsequently. With the rapid development of modern chemistry, the widely use of anesthetics like xenon, propofol and sugammadex has greatly contributed to relieve human pain.
