Abstract A comprehensive experiment of synthesis and characterization of the crude oil pipeline additive of polyoctadecyl acrylate was introduced. The additive was synthesized through free radical polymerization in solution. The structure of the additive was analyzed by infrared spectroscopy. The effect of additive on the flow ability and wax precipitation property of synthetic waxy oil was measured through rheological test and polarized microscopic observation. This experiment integrated basic contents in the course of additives for the oil and gas storage and transportation such as synthesis, structure characterization and performance evaluation of additives, and favored the improvement of theory teaching quality.
