Abstract Hydrochloric acid and marble were often used for preparation of carbon dioxide in laboratory. However, there were mainly three problems:firstly, in order to increase the reaction rate, relatively large concentration of hydrochloric acid was needed, which was easily volatile and corrosive to the skin and mucous membranes; secondly, the product needed purification treatment because it was mixed with hydrogen chloride and water; thirdly, the reaction was not complete and wasted reactants. This paper used blocky sodium carbonate with ten crystal water and dilute sulfuric acid to prepare carbon dioxide, which could solve the aboved problems.
