Abstract This paper reviewed the concepts of Lewis acid-base theory and fluoride ion affinity. The fluoride ion affinity, which is used to quantitatively measure the Lewis acidity strength, can be attained by ionic cyclotron resonance spectroscopy and quantum chemical approach. The PF- scale for the representation of acidity strength was also introduced.
