Visualization of Microcosm: Application of VMD Software in Education of Protein Structure

Abstract This paper discussed the application of VMD software in the teaching of three dimensional structure of protein. VMD can help students to understand folding patterns and the secondary structure feature of protein in an interactive, more direct and visual way. VMD also can summarize the structure data from instantaneous structures of molecules in thermal dynamic situation, and the statistic results are helpful for a better understanding about the tendency of forming specific secondary structure of protein.
