Abstract Inquiry learning was practiced in the course of fine chemical on the subject of food additives and food safety. Oriented on the interests of students, subjects were selected to be discrete from the central subject and collaborative study was carried out. Aimed at the cultivation of the learning ability of students, focus was put on the learning process and multi evaluation methods were incorporated. Aspects need to be improved during inquiry learning were discussed. Practice showed it was effective to arouse the learning interest of students, cultivate the students' exploratory ability and comprehensive quality.
