Abstract To cultivate students' innovative thinking and practical ability, a comprehensive reform of the system and contents of chemistry experiment course for undergraduates was carried out. This reform was summarized as follows:integrating inorganic chemistry experiment, organic chemistry experiment, analytical chemistry experiment and physical chemistry experiment into three experiment modules of basic experiment, comprehensive design experiment and innovative experiment, setting up the three-level ability training of basic ability, improved ability and innovative ability, proposing one main way for graduation design or professional practice, constructing a new chemistry experiment course system of "331" based on the characteristics of local undergraduate colleges. The practice has proved that the reform and practice could stimulate students' learning interests and initiative, and improve their ability to analyze and solve problem.
