Abstract The synthesis of nylon with interfacial polycondensation method was improved from experiment contents and teaching methods. On the one hand, the time to synthesize sebacoyl chloride was shortened from 4 h to 0.5 h when 5:1 mole ratio of chlorinated sulfoxide and sebacic acid reacted under reflux. On the other hand, the toxicity of the solvent could be reduced greatly when the hexane was used instead of carbon tetrachloride. Furthermore, the teaching method was also improved. The verification experiment was explained as researching experiment with question-driven approach. All these efforts made good results in polymer chemistry experiment teaching.
