Abstract This paper studied the effect of different reducing agents in the experiment of spectrophotometric determination of trace iron, combined with the analysis of visible absorption spectroscopy, dynamics research, environmental adaptability for acid and alkali. The results showed that reducing effect of chlorpromazine and vitamin C was the best of all selected reducing agents, and their linear relationship was quite good while the iron content ranging from 0.2 μg/mL to 2.0 μg/mL, which conformed the Lambert beer's law and was suitable for the determination of trace iron in water; chlorpromazine had both reducibility and sensitizing effect, its molar absorption coefficient ε was 2.60×104 L·mol-1·cm-1.
