Abstract Irving Langmuir, winner of the 1932 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, was invited to Japan and Peking where he delivered academic lectures and had a discussion with Chinese physicists and chemists in 1934. His brilliant speech had left a deep impression on the Chinese scholars. Based on some inferences such as the Collected Works of Irving Langmuir and reports come from the press, this study was an attempt to recur the grand pictures of lectures given by Irving Langmuir in China and in Japan.
