Abstract Based on the reform of trimester in University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), the public elective course of "The Popular Science Experiments of Chemistry in Life" was opened for the junior undergraduates who did not major in chemistry. The contents of the course were mainly related to the hot issues about life. "The determination of trace elements in hair" was one of the experimental projects, choosing students' hair as research object. And the contents and procedures of the experiment were also designed reasonably, which could stimulate students' interests in chemistry experiment, and further deepen the understanding of chemistry.
