Abstract Under the background of the transformation of higher education in China, the teaching practice of computer-aided design in reaction engineering provides an application example for the cultivation of applied talents. On the basis of the specific industrial cases in reaction engineering, a series of FORTRAN structured program for reaction kinetics and reactor design were prepared. Correspondingly, the syllabus and teaching plan were also adjusted. Then the course teaching in reaction engineering was carried out using computer-aided design, and typical simulation results were summarized. According to the classroom effects, an atmosphere of learner-centered teaching and learning forms, in which the theory and practice were combined together upon classroom teaching.
