Abstract Through open-ended questionnaire and interviews, this study aimed to investigate the perceptions of conceptual change teaching held by 63 pre-service chemistry teachers from a normal university in Guangdong. The results indicated that participants generally lacked sophisticated understanding about the meaning and strategies for the chemistry conceptual change teaching. Relevant suggestions for pre-service chemistry teacher education were also provided.
