Abstract At present, certain textbooks have the following problems, such as examples given in some textbooks falling behind new technology and method, the weak association of the theory and specific profession, which make it disadvantage for cultivating the ability to solve practical problems. With physical chemistry's textbook for non-chemistry students as an example, the detail procedures of textbook innovation in universities were illustrated here in order that talents would be both knowledgeable and innovative after textbook innovation. The procedures included strengthening the connection of textbook and professional knowledge, bridging between the basic theory and practical application, tracing the newest scientific achievements and experimental technique, renewing original materials of textbooks, combining the professional characteristics and cognitive need of students to design relevant exercises with discussion, and taking full advantage of modern means of information education to design teaching material.
