Abstract The removal of contaminant from water using iron-based nanoparticles has been one of the hottest environment remediation research areas at present. Degradation of methylene blue using Fe coated on calcium alginate, which would be of great significance to introduce into teaching experiment of environmental chemistry. The standard curves of methylene blue have been drawn up in the experiment. The influence of the different materials for the degradation of methylene blue, and the influence of the different reaction temperature for the degradation and the degradation rate constant of methylene blue has been investigated.
