Abstract Gansu Science Education Institute founded in 1939 was a special agency dedicated to education and extension of scientific knowledge. In the Republic of China, Gansu Science Education Institute overcame many difficulties to popularize science knowledge, used a variety of ways to actively promote scientific knowledge to assist schools with science education and the development of scientific research. Gansu Science Education Institute had made an important contribution to the social and economic development in the Northwest China and also accumulated valuable experience for the development of science and technology in New China.
