Abstract Based on the present teaching situation of University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, we introduced the PAD class into the teaching of analytical chemistry experiment. The duration of PAD class is equally divided into two parts. The first section is left to students for group discussion to review the contents of the last class, and the other half is given to teachers leading students to finish the experiment according to the preview report and the experimental procedure. Students shall absorb and internalize the experimental contents after class. Our practice showed that the participation of class discussions, the mastery of experimental skills and the accuracy of experimental data have been improved when compared with the traditional experimental teaching.
