Abstract The experiment of electrolyzing molten NaCl had high teaching value, but it was difficult to demonstrate in the classroom because of the high demand. This paper pointed out that the experiment design needed to solve some problems:the generation of high temperature, reducing the melting point of NaCl, the selection of electrodes and container, how to take metallic Na out of the system without being oxidized. Based on the research, this paper designed a demonstration experiment that could test Na and Cl2. This experiment was easy to operate and with obvious phenomenon, it could effectively support the teaching of electrolysis.
