Summary and Research Progress of Bipolar Electrochemistry

Abstract As a portable, array-available and simple electrochemical device, bipolar electrochemistry is rapidly developing in recent years and has attracted much increasing attention among researchers on analysis and sensing, material preparation, and screening. This review introduced the characteristic of the bipolar electrochemistry and two main devices of bipolar electrode (BPE):open BPE and closed BPE. Furthermore, taking an open bipolar electrode as example, this paper represented the electrochemical mechanism of BPE. It mainly introduced the relationship between driving electrodes and BPE, and the distributions of potentials and currents in BPE system, which provided a brief theoretical basis for the researcher in bipolar electrochemistry. In addition, the paper listed some research process of the BPE system in analysis and sensing, material preparation and screening.
