As a portable, array-available and simple electrochemical device, bipolar electrochemistry is rapidly developing in recent years and has attracted much increasing attention among researchers on analysis and sensing, material preparation, and screening. This review introduced the characteristic of the bipolar electrochemistry and two main devices of bipolar electrode (BPE):open BPE and closed BPE. Furthermore, taking an open bipolar electrode as example, this paper represented the electrochemical mechanism of BPE. It mainly introduced the relationship between driving electrodes and BPE, and the distributions of potentials and currents in BPE system, which provided a brief theoretical basis for the researcher in bipolar electrochemistry. In addition, the paper listed some research process of the BPE system in analysis and sensing, material preparation and screening.

Safety education is the most important task in laboratory safety management and all students should have basic safety knowledge about lab operation and chemical properties of reagents before starting experiment, so the teachers arranged a seminar "lab safety and guideline of lab reagents" to all fresh undergraduate students at first semester. For motivating students' interests to learn knowledge about lab safety, the teachers designed the course based on different majors and lab management practical situation with various teaching methods. Timely classroom test was used to strengthen students' impression and make sure that the training has met original goal. As the most important part of the safety management of institutional construction, taking part in safety education/training is the prerequisite for all students. After training, students' safety sense have been notably improved and laid solid foundation for following lab safety management. And this also demonstrated our college's safety management principle:people-oriented and prevention first.

A new smartphone imaging digital colorimetric method for determination of Cr(Ⅵ) in water was proposed. The Cr(Ⅵ) from aqueous solution reacts with diphenylcarbazide to form a color complex, then the digital images from the solution above was captured by a smartphone and imported into the Photoshop software to read the brightness value of green channels. The experimental data showed that brightness value is linearly correlated with the concentration of Cr(Ⅵ) in solution. The influential factors such as shooting mode and image reading mode were studied and optimized. The results were consistent with the spectrophotometric method with the recovery of 98.0%~102.0%. This obtained method is rapid, accurate, easy to operate and can be used in on-site analysis without professional instruments. The presented method of students' own smartphones as only testing equipment can greatly stimulate students' interests in experiment and innovative spirit.
