Abstract The task-based approach was applied in the comprehensive design water analytical chemistry experiment teaching process, which contained four steps:teacher-students' discussions for consummating the experiment scheme, students' autonomous practice, students' independent report about the water quality, teaching evaluation. The results indicated that students' professional knowledge and skills were consolidated; students' comprehensive abilities to use knowledge were cultivated; students' interests in scientific inquiry and innovative awareness were stimulated.
