Abstract In order to cultivate students' research thinking and innovative consciousness, the seminar teaching method was applied to the course of membrane science and technology. In the teaching method, the curriculum knowledge was gradually introduced, deepened and practiced by setting questions at different levels. Research skills training and the innovation experiment program for university students were involved in the teaching contents. The evaluation of teaching effectiveness emphasized the students' participation in class discussion and their performance of seminar presentation. In the whole teaching process, students' ability to think independently was enhanced and their research skills were trained, giving excellent teaching results.
