Abstract Based on the coal macromolecular structure theory, the teaching contents of coal chemistry experiment were set up, and the experiment teaching was carried out. This experiment project took the coal proximate analysis experiment, the coal elemental analysis experiment and the coal calorific value experiment as an order. During the teaching process, a combination of main and auxiliary board was adopted as blackboard writing design, focusing on training students' thinking ability of using the coal molecular structure theory to analyze coal's compositions and properties, and compare experimental results of different coal samples. This kind of teaching mode could highlight the central position of coal macromolecular structure theory, build a knowledge system of "coal formation, coal structure and coal properties", and improve students' thinking ability step-by-step:first, grasping the overall laws of moisture, volatile matter and fixed carbon contents changeing with coalification degree, further analyzing C, H, O elements change characteristics in different coalification stages, finally comprehensive evaluating combustible and non-combustible matter's affects on the coal calorific value.
