Abstract This article introduces a chemical experiment, the fabrication and chemical modification of functional polymer surfaces, and its teaching idea. The functional polymer surface can be fabricated by phase separation methods. The experiment explored the influence of solvent composition in the precursor on the wettability of the polymer surface. At the same time, click chemical reactions are used to modify the hydrophilic surface. The contact angles of surfaces are measured with static drop method. Using scanning electron microscope (SEM), the surface morphology of the polymer are characterized before and after modification. Results show that with the change of solvent formula, the contact angle varies a lot. This comprehensive experiment integrates chemical basic knowledge, chemical academic frontier and experimental basic skills, which is beneficial to cultivate students' innovative thinking and improve their comprehensive ability.
