Abstract Pillar [n]arenes are a new class of macrocyclic host compounds, which have attracted much attention in the field of supramolecular chemistry in recent years. Compared with pillar [5]arenes, pillar [6]arenes have the larger cavity structure and show extraordinary host-guest properties. In this paper, it is aimed to introduce the structure and conformation of pillar [6]arenes, to mainly elaborate the research progress in the synthesis and application in molecular recognition of pillar [6]arenes in recent years.
