Abstract "Determination of equilibrium constant of I3-=I-+I2" is an important inorganic chemistry experiment in college study. Conventionally, a large amount of iodine was required to finish this experiment with a long dispersion shaking process. Thus, residual iodine volatilized into the air and is harmful to the environment and the researchers. In this work, we successfully shortened the dispersion shaking time using ultrasonic-assisted method and saved 90% of the necessary reagents. After 5 minutes' dispersion, the calculated equilibrium constant was 1.54×10-3 and the relative error was 2.67%. Our results indicated that this novel method could be a potential optimization to current experiment.
