Abstract The problems of less hours of experiment and limited availability of labs appeared with the modular teaching reform of chemistry experiment, which leads the students to fail to learn chemistry experiment courses systematically. "Virtual simulation experiment" was designed as a supplement in lab-based chemistry experiments in order to solve these problems, and the reform of chemistry experiments teaching mode based on "online+offline" was studied. The basic knowledge of experiment was learned by self-study on the line and consolidated through experimental training. The module experiment would be trained after watching video. Comprehensive experiment would be applied for laboratory operation after online self-study. Then the whole experiment teaching process was completed. The problems of less hours of experiment and limited availability of labs were solved. The aim of training the student's practical ability, independent thinking ability and innovative thinking ability has been achieved.
