Abstract In order to investigate the water quality status in the lower reaches of the A and B River. Eight sampling points were selected in downstream of every river during 2014 high flow period (August) and low water season (December). DO, NH4+-N and other four physiological indexes were detected. Meanwhile, the Hg, Pb and other five heavy metal indicators were also detected. In addition, single parameter evaluation method and water quality identification index method were used to analyze the water quality status of two rivers while logarithmic power function universal exponential formula was used to evaluate eutrophic state of two rivers. Results showed that the water qualities of downstream were dominated by the inferior fifth class of two rivers. All kinds of heavy metals were not exceeding standard and the main excessive amounts of pollutant were TN, TP, NH4+-N and so on. The water quality of the A river was better than B river. Water quality in high flow period was superior to that in dry season. What's more, water qualities in lower reaches of two rivers were in a state of rich and high trophic. It is necessary to intensify efforts to curb pollution in agricultural areas of two rivers in order to reduce the risk of eutrophication of the A and B River.
