Abstract The two-tier multiple choice diagnostic test as a research tool, this paper investigated the 55 grade 9 students' alternative framework of core concept "acid, alkali and salt", analyzed the causes, which provided the basis and ideas of conceptual change teaching and related research for high school chemistry teachers.
